Artist Statement

My work is the product of experimentation with altering photographic images. I use a series of original, unique processes that were developed over several years of trial and error through a series of both planned and accidental experiments. The techniques I currently use are a combination of image transfers and hand coloring. No digital manipulation is used, only traditional mediums. Original photographs are printed on hand made paper and a wash is applied to the image before it is transferred onto a surface and re-colored using acrylic paint, oil pastel and colored pencil. The resulting effect has been described as both eerie and soothing while evoking feelings of memories or dreams. I use images that are representational of everyday life in hopes of connecting with the viewer and making ordinary, mundane scenes more interesting. I continue to develop my process, while seeking new subjects that might connect me with the viewer in a common, hazy recollection.
